The course is delivered via self paced flexible distance learning which means we provide you with everything you need to study the course via our online training system and there is no classroom attendance required. Students are able to work through the short course at their own pace.
This hands-on beginner’s course aims to give the learner a sound grounding in the use of Microsoft Word 2013 to create everyday documents required either at work or at home. Particular emphasis is placed on developing accurate and well-designed documents. The course begins by showing the learner how to navigate around Microsoft Word 2013. It then quickly gets the learner to create a new document before moving onto features such as text manipulation and enhancement, creating and using tabs and tables, embellishing documents with clip art and pictures, creating multiple documents through merging and printing documents.

This course assumes little or no knowledge of Microsoft Word 2013. However, it would be beneficial to have a general understanding of personal computers and the operating system environment, especially in regard to working with files and folders.

  • Learning Outcomes

    This course covers all the most important elements of using Microsoft’s Word processing application. Highlights of the course include information on signing into a Microsoft account in Office, adding online images and video to a document, customising a document with themes and formatting sets, and customising the Word interface.

    Getting Started - The course begins with a look at how to start Word, create a basic document, and then close Word. Then, participants will learn how to sign into Office with a Microsoft account. The module concludes with information on saving and opening documents.
     
    Your First Document - This module is all about basic document tasks. First, typing, deleting, and selecting text are covered. Then, editing tools (including cut, copy, paste, undo, and redo) are covered. Finally, find and replace tools are covered.
     
    Formatting Text, Part One + Part Two - One of Word’s most important features is its wide array of document formatting tools. Participants will learn about the basic tools in this module, including changing font face, size, and colour; applying text effects; and using the Font dialog. Next, participants will learn about advanced text formatting tools, including styles, themes, document formatting sets, and the Format Painter. The Clear Formatting command will also be covered.
     
    Working with Paragraphs - In this module, participants will learn how to move text, create bulleted and numbered lists, change line spacing, align and justify text, and use the Paragraph dialog.
     
    Formatting the Page - Participants will learn how to add a cover page to a document, format text as columns, add a watermark, change the page colour, and apply a page border.
     
    Inserting Art and Objects, Part One + Part Two - This module covers inserting tables, charts, SmartArt, equations, and screenshots into a document. This module covers inserting local and online images, videos, shapes, and text boxes into a document.
     
    The Finishing Touches - Now that participants understand all the essentials of working with Word, this module will cover techniques for polishing a document. Topics include running a spell check, inserting page numbers, adding headers and footers, creating a table of contents, and creating an index.
     
    Viewing Your Document - This module explores the different viewing tools offered by Word 2013, including zoom commands and the new Read mode.
     
    Printing and Sharing Your Document - Next, participants will learn how to print, e-mail, and share documents. They will also learn how to open, edit, and save PDF files with Word 2013.
     
    Customising the Interface - The final module of this course will show participants how to change ribbon display options, customise the Quick Access toolbar, customise and create ribbon tabs, and reset interface changes.

    You work through the Training Manual at your own pace and complete the quizzes when you are ready. This allows you to progress through the course at a pace that suits your needs. You have 12 months in which to submit your assessments for marking.

    This course assumes little or no knowledge of Microsoft Word 2013. However, it would be beneficial to have a general understanding of personal computers and the operating system environment, especially in regard to working with files and folders.

    • Basic Microsoft Office skills
    • Access to the Microsoft Office 2013 suite of programs (either PC or Macintosh).
    • A basic calculator and stationery
    • PC or Mac – minimum system requirements & loaded with current versions of: Quicktime, Adobe Reader & access to the internet & email programs.

    Course enrolments can commence at any time after the enrolment process is completed.

    This course is a self paced distance learning training course. Students have 12 months to complete the training. Students work through the workbook, practice the material learnt and then complete the assessments.
     
    Due to the flexibility there is a lower drop out rate thus saving students time and money invested in their desired outcomes. In addition, flexible adult learning encourages students to continue the course at their own pace without restrictions as to when and how they complete the course. Therefore, students are able to continue their life roles and incorporate their study into time slots that suit their lifestyles. This also allows those that are working either as an employee, subcontractor or owner/operator to continue to earn money or charge for billable hours, which further serve to reduce the ʻrealʼ course costs. Students have 12 months in which to complete all of their assessments.
