Diploma of Accounting FNS50217

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others.
 
Students will learn to use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements. They plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources. Employers across all industries are searching for people with diverse accounting skills who possess the extra capacity to prepare financial reports, maintain internal procedures and develop and control accounting information systems.
 

When studying this course you will develop advanced skills in areas such as income tax, management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, performance analysis, financial reporting and leadership. The program reflects both existing practice and emerging trends in the finance industry, providing you with readily transferable professional skills.

Online Flexible Distance Learning

TBST's nationally accredited and recognised qualification courses are delivered by Online Training via Flexible Distance Learning. All course material including text books, course manuals, webinars, assessments, software and a large number of additional training supplies are provided to students on TBSTs Online Learning Management System (LMS).

    Part-time for one year equates to approximately 12 – 15 hours per week reading, working through the course material and working on assessments. This timeframe will vary for every student depending on level their of experience and understanding of the course material.

    Students can finish the course at a faster rate however this will be dependent on the factors which include external commitments, relevant skills, knowledge and experience within the area of study and motivation and dedication to course studies and their outcome.

    The funding provider Skills First does not offer the opportunity for concession card holders to receive a reduction in the tuition fee.

    Once your enrolment is fully completed we will provide you access to our online training system in order for you to complete your Online Induction.

  • Eligibility for Government Funding

    Eligibility for a Victorian Government Funded place under the Skills First Program is available if you live in Victoria, and you meet government's citizenship/residence requirements, and you meet the following criteria. 

    To meet general citizenship/residency eligibility requirements, an individual must be:
    • An Australian citizen; or 
    • A New Zealand citizen or 
    • A holder of a permanent visa

     

    To meet the Victorian Training Guarantee eligibility requirements an individual must comply with the following requirements:
    • You were under 20 years of age on the 1st January - Or 
    • You are seeking entry into a qualification that is at a higher level than any qualification you currently hold - AND 
    • You can begin up to two government subsidised courses in one year and do up to two government subsidised courses at the same time - AND 
    • You can begin up to two government subsidised courses at the same qualification level (other than Foundation Skills) in your lifetime, regardless of whether you complete them. There is no lifetime limit on the number of Foundation Skills courses you can begin.

     

    If you are not eligible for a government-subsidised place, your training will be costed by our team.

    We do not accept Government Funded RPL Enrolments and all RPL will be charged at out standard Fee Paying RPL fees. We currently do not accept Traineeship or Apprenticeship Enrolments.

    Applications cannot be deemed eligible for funding under the Skills First Program if the applicant currently holds an Australian qualification equivalent to a Diploma or higher level qualification regardless of the field of study.

    Applications cannot be deemed eligible for funding under the Skills First Program if the applicant currently holds any overseas qualifications unless the applicant can show formal evidence that the overseas qualification has been assessed by the relevant Australian authority and does not have equivalency to an AQF qualification equal to a Diploma or higher level qualification regardless of the field of study. Certified evidence must be provided.

    As part of your enrolment, you will be asked a series of questions relating to the above and you may be asked to provide relevant evidence to support your responses. You will also be required to sign a declaration attesting to the accuracy of your responses.

    People who undertake this course include, but are not limited to those who have completed the Certificate IV Accounting (FNS40215), Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (FNS40217), FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set or those working within the financial services industry requiring a suitable qualification such as:

    We offer our students Online Distance Learning with the option to attend our Open Classroom Sessions. In these sessions students can avail themselves of our training room, with access to our Training and Assessment Team. The Training Room allows access to all the resources students will need for their courses.
     
    We also have a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on the LMS. If students have any questions these will also be answered, with our Assessment email address manned from 10am until 6pm weekdays (except Public Holidays).
     
  • Course Materials Included

    We combine Self-paced, Open Classrooms, Distance and Online Learning into each of our courses, so that students have the flexibility to choose the options that best suit their current situations.

    All course material is provided to our students online via our Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS provides students with a more streamlined method of working through the qualifications by allowing them to login and access all current course files from one central location at a time and place of their choosing.

    The LMS has been designed to enable students to work through course units in sequential order, according to unit difficulty, concepts and prerequisites, as per their individual Training Plan. Students will always have access to the most up-to-date course content for all qualifications, as any updates will be distributed to all students immediately via the LMS.

    Due to this flexibility there is a lower drop out rate thus saving students time and money vested in their desired outcomes. In addition, flexible adult learning encourages students to continue the course at their own pace without restrictions as to when and how you complete the course.

    Therefore, students are able to continue their life roles and incorporate their study into time slots that suit their lifestyles. This also allows those that are working either as an employee or subcontractor to continue to earn money or charge for billable hours, which further serve to reduce the ʻrealʼ course costs.

  • Assessment
    Our assessments Do Not require students to attend classroom examinations. Assessments may be completed via the LMS as tasks, activities, quizzes and/or uploads.
    Students may also need to submit cumulative assessment tasks via email checkpoints and compete virtual role-plays/workplace scenarios.

  • Prerequisites

    Before commencing the FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting course you are required to have completed one of the following qualifications or skills sets:

     

    If you hold one of the required qualifications, you will need to provide us with a copy of your certificate.

    You will also need to provide us a transcript, record of results or statement of attainment showing the units you have completed. All enrolments must have completed each of the units below.

    • FNSACC312 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers
    • FNSACC416 Set up and operate a computerised accounting system
    • FNSTPB402 Establish and maintain payroll systems
    • FNSTPB401 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements
    • FNSACC408 Work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry
    • BSBFIA401 Prepare financial reports              
     
    You will need to provide us a transcript, record of results or statement of attainment showing the units you have completed.

  • Units of Study

    TBST have sequenced the units of the Qualification in an order that builds the students skills and knowledge in a cumulative manner. As the student progresses through the course, the skills and knowledge obtained from a previous unit will then assist them in achieving competence in the subsequent units.
